We have made hundreds of tiny changes to the website since our last code release (which are all available on the beta site). The main site is using revision number 442 while the beta site currently runs revision 661. If you use the beta site, we would greatly appreciate all of your comments, suggestions, and feedback before we push the changes through to the main site. If you do not use the beta site but would like to, please open a Support Ticket to request the web address.
One of the easiest places to leave a short comment or suggestion (and where others can read and respond) is in the blurb tool.

It appears that some emails from @squash-central.com to @lse.ac.uk are being delayed by LSE's email servers. They eventually go through but this causes a bit of an annoyance to those registering or resetting their passwords wanting an immediate response. Please be patient when waiting for an email from squash-central. In the meantime, we are working on trying to find and fix the delay issue.

There are currently four mens teams and one womens team at LSE. We play in two different leagues (BUCS and ULU), which means there are normally two matches per week.

The womens team is currently the reigning ULU cup champions and Division II runner ups in the national BUCS league.

We will be releasing a code update to the website for the start of the new term on Thursday, October 1st. We will provide more details on the changes in the new code shortly.

In the coming weeks we will be transitioning the website to a major set of code changes. The main website has not had many changes in several months but the development code has undergone a lot of big transformations. We would therefore like to release the code in early September so that there is some testing and feedback before the new academic year begins.
One of the biggest changes to the code is a change from the "Guest Tokens" system to an "Account Credits" system. Guest tokens provided an easy way to pay the guest fee for bookings with non-squash-club members. However, there were limitations in the way designed the tokens and have written a new account credits system. Account credits will work in a similar way to guest tokens in that you will buy credits to be added to your account from the gym. The main difference is that bookings will have a variable booking fee (as opposed to a unit token fee under the token system) for which you will require account credits. This booking fee may be zero in the case of bookings with other members or may be non-zero in the case of guest bookings (or may vary depending upon rules determined by the squash captain).
From the start of September we will no longer be issuing guest tokens and old guest tokens will expire at the end of September. You will soon be able to purchase account credits instead. More details will be posted here as the changes are rolled out.
There will be a handful of other changes. For instance we have written initial code for sending calendar attachments with confirmation emails so that you can easily add bookings to your Outlook/iPhone calendar. Other changes will be transparent to the user. For instance, we are in the process of writing the code in a server/client (wsdl api) format so that the processing of requests on the server is separated from the user interface (i.e. the website). This will allow for a different set of developers to help with the user interface or create a new one (i.e. a mobile version). If you have any Php or Java experience and are interested in helping, please contact us.

A bug in the code meant that daylight saving was not clearly reflected in the booking form. We have decided to cancel all the bookings for Sunday-Tuesday in order to prevent confusion. If you have a booking which was cancelled, please re-book it again. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

We fixed a bug in the code which meant that British Summer Time (BST) was not being correctly displayed on the site. Many bookings from Sunday onwards were booked according to GMT and not BST. Therefore, your booking may be different to what you expected by one hour. We have cancelled the bookings that were set to occur past the closing of the squash courts. Please check the remaining bookings to ensure you turn up for the correct time. Sorry for the inconvenience.

We are working on fixing the bug in the ladder ranking system. We have recalculated the ladder with the new code changes. Please let us know if you think any bugs persist.

A few members have reported problems placing bookings. They receive the message "incorrect player1 password". We will look into this bug shortly. Apologies to those affected.

The ladder calculator does not appear to be working correctly. The points from some results do not appear to be added to the users score correctly. We will get around to fixing this in the coming weeks.

It appears that the site has been transferred to the new server with minimal problems which have mostly been fixed and that the new location settings have propagated through to most DNS servers. There may be a few bugs that need to be sorted out (we are aware that the captcha image does not appear in the password reset form) so if you find anything that appears to be broken please let us know via the Support Ticket system.

Sorry about the server downtime recently. The website hosting company recently moved the site to a new server which caused a few tiny issues but the site should be fully functional again now.

Please make a note of the exact spelling of your username. The next version of code (to be released in the coming days) will not use the drop-drown menu of usernames in the login form. Instead you will be need to type in your username and password. With so many users we think that this will be a much faster login process for you.

We have made some updates to the website code and database. Future versions will require each member to have a unique username. Therefore, we will be adding some random characters to any username in the database which is not unique. If you are affected you can login to your account and change it to a different unique username.

Since we have to make some code changes due to the server upgrades, we are also using this opportunity to add some new code and features for the new squash year. Over the next few days the site may not function correctly. Please bear with us as we develop and implement some code and database changes.

If you want to participate in the ladder and get experience playing new people of comparable ability then (a) visit My Ladder and join the squash ladder, (2) submit results of your matches so that we can calculate your level, and (3) challenge members above you on the ladder to climb faster. We are starting to receive some squash match results from members with which to create create a squash ranking scheme. You can see the demo on the public Ladder or login to your account and go to My Ladder to see it in more detail.

We have been updating the code to provide an enhanced squash ladder for the new academic year. If you are interested you need to do two things: (1) login to your account and select My Ladder to join the squash ladder, and (2) use the form at My Results to record the results of all of your matches. The squash ladder will then use these results to rank you within the club. (Please note that the ranking algorithm is still quite experimental at the moment, but it will improve with time and as you add more match results to the database.)

It appears that the hosting company has now fixed the problem with the email server and the website should now be sending out confirmation emails as usual.

We are having problems with the server which is preventing the site from sending out emails (again). Please bear with us as we wait for the hosting company to fix it.

We are planning on updating the Ladder so that it ranks players by ability. But we need some results in the database in order to do this. May we please ask for your help: record your match results after you play. To do so, the player that booked the court needs to log-in to his/her account and go to the "My Results" page to enter the result. Then the opponent simply needs to confirm the result. It is quick and easy and will help us to build a better squash ladder. Thanks!

Sorry for the late announcement. The school (and therefore the squash courts) will be closed over the long holiday weekend. The site has now been updated to reflect this and any bookings on these dates have been cancelled.

Please note that there was an error in our code and summer time was not being shown correctly. You may have booked the wrong slot because all times were shown in GMT. But the site has now been updated to reflect British Summer Time. So please double check your bookings this week.

The site has been down because the server company we used has been having problems recently. We have recently moved to a new website hosting company.

The database should be up-to-date with all of your most recent entries (but if your most recent booking is not in the database then please re-book it asap).

Suggestions Wanted
Over the winter break we will be tweaking a few things on the site. So if you have any suggestions on how to improve the site then now is a great time to drop us an email to let us know.

Court #1 should become available soon. However all courts will be closed with the school for the holiday period from 24th December (Saturday) through 2nd January (Monday) inclusive.

Courts #2 & #3 will also be undergoing refurbishment during the Winter Break and will be closed from the 19th December (Monday) through the 23rd December inclusive (and remain closed through 2nd of January).

We will attempt to make sure that the court closures are made obvious through the booking system by only allowing bookings on dates when the courts are available (but if we have made a mistake somewhere please drop us an email).

Membership is ridiculously cheap, something like £6 for adults, and benefits include receipt of the Squash Player Magazine, Ballot entry for event tickets, entry to an online grading system, discounted coaching courses, eligibility to enter England sqush tournaments and inter county squash etc etc. A very good deal.

There is a very high demand for playing slots (especially now that court 1 will be unavailable possibly for the next few weeks). Please cancel any bookings you are unable to keep as soon as possible so as to free up the slot for someone who can make use of it. Thanks!

Squash Court One: Update

Please note that court 1 will be out of order until further notice. Certain light fittings on the court are unsafe and due to health and saftey regulations LSE will not let us use the court until the problem is fixed - although they cannot fix it immediately as the light fittings needed have to be ordered etc. You will all be notified when the court is back in working order and it will then be available for bookings online.

Squash Court #1 is currently under maintenance and is unavailable. The gym has not provided us with any further information.

The site should now be sending out emails as usual.

Following from user feedback we have re-written large chunks of the code to add some features you have requested:
1. The "Guest Token" system allows you to buy credits for guest bookings from the gym so that you can place your bookings with guests more conveniently from home.
2. We added an easier way to find your squash partner on the booking menu. When you log into your account there is a "Friends" menu which allows you to store a list of your regular squash partners. Then whenever you book a squash court, these names will appear first on the drop-down menu.

We hope that you like the new features. There may still be a few bugs in the code so if you find something that does not seem to work properly, please drop us a message.
